DVD: Player has no sound

When using a DVD player, you must select the type of sound output that you require. If you have a system with DOLBY DIGITAL sound, and have used either the optical or coaxial digital output, then you must make that selection on the DVD menu. If on the other hand you used the regular RCA jack outputs, then you must select the analogue, sometimes called: DOLBY SURROUND output.

DVD: Some movies play great, but others have no sound

Again, as above….some movies have the DOLBY DIGITAL soundtrack as the default, or main one. If you are running digital, and you encounter a movie that has the analogue soundtrack as the main one….you will not hear any sound, until you switch over in the menu.

TOO MANY COMPONENTS: NOT ENOUGH INPUTS ON MY TV OR RECEIVER

The addition of a small audio/video switchbox will allow additional video or audio components to be connected to your home theater receiver or television set. These units can vary quite a bit in quality and features, ranging in cost from around $100.00 to considerably more for a videophile-grade high definition ready unit.

TV Picture goes all static, when I hook up my cable TV to the radio

This is a common problem, often not noticed until a new home theater sound system is installed. Caused by ground interference, often compounded when video signal amplifiers are introduced into the house wiring system. The cure is a simple "ground-break"…. Which attaches to the cable line ahead of the TV.

SOME TVs in the house are clear, and others have poor picture

often when multiple TVs are hooked up in home systems…. The cable wiring has not been optimally configured. The use of multiple splitters, inadequate cable wire, and runs that are too long, all contribute to poor picture. The answer to this, is a proper video distribution amplifier and routing system. Beware of cheap amplifiers that promise to fix the problem, they often cause more harm than good to the picture.

TV Remote Control stopped working, and the batteries are good

the most common problem here is with multifunction remotes. Often there are switches that allow the remote to control other devices: VCR, Satellite, Cable box, etc. If one of those buttons gets pushed by accident, the remote will 'remember' the last device selected. Thus the TV will not be controlled. Always push the TV button before using the remote for TV!

NO VIDEO SIGNAL FROM VCR OR SATELLITE: JUST DVD:

Usually, if all video components are hooked in through a home theatre receiver, there are often conflicts with the type of cabling used. Most systems require, that all video components be wired with the same type of wiring as is running out to the TV monitor. This means that if the DVD is wired using component video cables….then all components would have to be wired similarly. There are now special conversion cables, that allow for this to happen.

HOW DO I HOOK IT ALL UP: THERE SEEMS TO BE TOO MANY CHOICES!

This is a common problem. If you have a TV, and several components, often-different manuals will show different ways of hooking up the same system. There are often multiple ways of doing the same job. Consult with your Lipton's salesperson or installer. They will often have real-world experience with your type of system that goes beyond the theoretical possibilities suggested by the manufacturers. Often, the simplest way is the best one!

TOO MANY REMOTE CONTROLS: NOBODY IN THE FAMILY CAN WORK THE SYSTEM!

This is a common problem today. Most pieces of equipment come with a dedicated remote control, as part of the package, leading to excessive numbers of remotes required. The purchase of a single, unified system remote control will usually eliminate all the clutter. In addition to that, these remotes often link up several functions at a time into "macros", allowing for a sequence of selections to all take place with a single button push. Finally, because these units often employ LCD touch-screens, they often have very few actual buttons to deal with: the screen displays only the buttons required for the piece of equipment you have selected to control at the time.

VIDEOTAPES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WON'T PLAY ON MY VCR:

North American televisions all use a standard signal for reproducing video. This is different from most other countries in the world. You must get a "Multi-System" VCR to reproduce these tapes from foreign countries. You can normally make copies of tapes on these units that can be selected for playback on any system you choose. These VCRs are normally significantly more expensive that normal domestic models…. Usually in the $700 - $800 CDN range.
